VIBGYOR High School, Malad Wages ‘Walkathon’ against cancer

VIBGYOR High School, Malad participated enthusiastically in ‘Walkathon’ organized by RACE to rein-in-cancer, a Charitable Trust. The walk from Orlem Church to Ijmima Complex in Malad (W) spread the message of reining-in-cancer through early detection. The activity witnessed over 200 participants, walking for the cause.
Mumbai: VIBGYOR High School, Malad participated enthusiastically in ‘Walkathon’ organized by RACE to rein-in-cancer, a Charitable Trust. The walk from Orlem Church to Ijmima Complex in Malad (W) spread the message of reining-in-cancer through early detection. The activity witnessed over 200 participants, walking for the cause.

To spread awareness about the cause, members of RACE distributed caps, leaflets with information on an anti-cancerous diet; as well as discounted coupons for Mammography. The Medical Advisor of RACE, Dr. N. Parwate as well as TV Actor, Ravi Dubey spoke on ways to combat the disease fearlessly. Naturopath, Dr. Bharati Rathod, engaged the participants in an exercise session and demonstrated a few exercises and yoga asanas that support a healthy lifestyle. The walk concluded with a moment of silence observed for cancer fighters / survivors.

Commenting on the cause, Ms. Sunita George, Principal, VIBGYOR High School, Malad, said, “In keeping with the mission of providing Holistic education, at VIBGYOR High, we undertake initiatives to educate our students on various social, cultural and health issues that plague our society. With the rise in the prevalence of cancer today, it is important to sensitize the young generation on the impact of this disease and encourage them to lend able support to the cause of spreading awareness. We are indeed proud to have contributed to such a noble endeavour of RACE.

RACE is a team of 25 members and volunteers who have been conducting campaigns in schools, colleges and corporates about the benefits of early diagnosis in curbing the spread of cancer. Their emphasis has been on screening tests as they believe that early detection can reduce mortality due to the disease. Apart from this, RACE also organizes counselling sessions, screening camps and clinical trials, and provides financial support to the poor and needy cancer patients.
