USC Seniors Start Crowdfunding Campaign For Thesis Film

Pair hopes to turn short film, “Arcadia,” into the basis of a TV series

Los Angeles, CA - Two seniors majoring in film and TV production at the University of Southern California have launched a Kickstarter campaign to create the basis for an hour-long TV series.

Eduardo Sanchez-Ubanell and Bryce Morgan are seeking to raise $10,000 by March 5 to create “Arcadia,” a short film that will also serve as the proof of concept for their larger idea of an ongoing TV series. The film is about two playboy, atheist brothers who decide to start a religion to fund their debauched lifestyle after being cut off by their millionaire parents.

“Arcadia” is based on the idea that film and television can help the spread of ideas, and was inspired by hit dramas such as “House of Cards” and “True Detective.” The pair hope that after the proof of concept is created, their idea will eventually be picked up as an hour-long drama on a major network or streaming platform.

Sanchez-Ubanell and Morgan have been collaborating for the last four years as students at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, one of the world’s best film schools.

Sanchez-Ubanell, who started making home videos inspired by Star Wars at the age of 6, is the son of two immigrant journalists and is deeply interested in using film to explore politics and sociology. Morgan is a writer-director who also has extensive experience in producing, which gives her the ability to manage both the creative and business sides of film projects.

The pair are offering rewards for backers ranging from a postcard and thank you credit at the $10 level to a digital download at the $25 level, a DVD copy of the film for a $50 pledge and two tickets to the film’s premiere in Los Angeles for a $100 pledge.

A pledge of $500 gets the backer an associate producer credit, a $1,000 pledge gets an executive producer credit and a pledge of $2,000 or more is rewarded with an executive producer credit and a VIP dinner with Sanchez-Ubanell and Morgan.
