The electronic part of the Ingenio satellite cameras is now ready. Soon the Spanish first optical observation satellite will be ready, que will take up to 100 pictures a day to "keep watch" on Earth.

Madrid, Spain, July 29, 2013 - The electronic part of the Ingenio satellite cameras is now ready. Soon the first Spanish optical observation satellite will be ready, which will take up to 100 pictures a day to "keep watch" on Earth.

The company charged with the electronic part of this is Thales Alenia Space España. Its head of Detection Engineering, Rafael Navarro, explained that "the eyes of the satellite" consist of two cameras and will be integrated into the optical instrument. Once in orbit they will be able to take up to 100 photographs a day with a resolution of between 2.5 and 10 metres.

The Electronics are the “primary nucleus” and have been in the works for five years. These components will be responsible for receiving and transforming signals from the images that can be sent to bases on Earth. The pictures will be in colour and will have various applications in civil use, such as natural disaster control, mapping and water pollution monitoring.

Thales has also developed the "voice" and "ears" of the satellite, using TTC (Telemetry, Tracking and Control) communication systems to control Ingenio, and high speed data transmission systems (250 megabytes per second).

Together with Ingenio, the military radar satellite Paz makes up the National Earth Observation Programme, which allows Spain to operate a dual land observation system and allows for independent coverage of areas of national interest.
