The University Miguel Hernández de Elche has developed mathematical algorithms that will improve the game and performance of athletes.

Madrid, Spain, July 30, 2013 - The University Miguel Hernández de Elche has developed mathematical algorithms that will improve the game and performance of athletes.

With the idea of helping improve the game of tennis players, the Sport Investigation Centre of the UMH has developed a software that allows you to know the maximum exercise tolerance of a player, explains Eduardo Cervelló, chair of the Sports Sciences department.

Everything is based on mathematical algorithms that help the tennis player adjust when planning his or her game and training. The technology allows for the organization of training schedules according to the physical preparation of each athlete, bearing in mind their muscular and psychological condition.

According to Cervelló, who also runs the company Tennis Evolution, mathematical algorithms define the maximum exercise tolerance level of each person. This combines scientific and tennis-specific work, said Cervelló. It’s not that you’re going to win the French Open, but it will help to perfect details and improve your confidence, especially because you know that you are training correctly, he says.

The software is so efficient that tennis players like David Ferrer and Nicolás Almagro already want to try it. The idea of commercializing the software in the future has not been discarded, although the short-term goal is to apply this knowledge and technology to gradually achieve the maximum performance of the athlete.
