Madrid, Spain, April 26, 2013 - A book called “Espana hoy 2013” (‘Spain today, 2013’) has been published, offering an up-to-date vision of the main aspects of the country – its institutions, politics, economy, society and culture.
This year, the public will once again have access to the latest edition of this book, entitled “España hoy 2012”, published by the Ministry of the Presidency and produced by the Directorate General for Communication of the Secretariat of State for Communication. It aims to provide anyone interested in gaining a full and up-to-date view of Spain with information about the social, political, economic and cultural reality of the country.
Speaking at the book’s launch, Spain’s Secretary of State for Communication, Carmen Martínez Castro, said the publication “comes at a time when Spain, like many neighbouring countries, is going through a profound economic crisis, the consequences of which can be seen in every area of national life. However, the difficulties we are experiencing today must not be allowed to undermine the important transformation that Spanish society has undergone in recent decades”.
Continuing, Martínez Castro said: “The economic evolution of our country, which went through a period of enormous growth up until the current crisis, the internationalisation of our companies, and the increasingly significant presence of Spanish culture both within and beyond our borders, are all aspects that define the country’s image today, and chart a path of progress and wellbeing that we must continue to follow in future”.
From this perspective, “España hoy 2013” is not just a reflection of the current situation in Spain, but a catalogue of the challenges faced by Spanish society in the various realms of its political, social, economic and cultural life, as well as its ability to overcome them.
