Spain Anticipates a Rise in International Tourist Arrivals this Summer

Madrid, Spain, June 07, 2013 - There is a “good outlook” for international tourism arrivals to Spain for the forthcoming summer season, above all from the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Russia.

The tourism directors of these countries’ tourist boards have expressed optimism. Despite the economic crisis and slowdown in growth in European countries, the estimates are positive, with an increase in visitors to Spain expected over the summer months.

Tourist figures from the United Kingdom in particular have remained positive, with this country gaining market share during the crisis. An anticipated 14.9 million seats are to be offered – almost 2.8 percent more than the year before. Tourist numbers from France, meanwhile, are expected to grow by between 2 percent and 5 percent, with most tourists arriving by road.

Tourists from Germany will increase by 30 percent, although their holiday expenditure will be lower, while the number of Russian visitors will also rise. In fact, 39 percent of their reservations are already confirmed. Spain expects to issue over one million visas to Russian visitors.

European tourists choose Spain because of its weather, prices and safety. The Balearic and Canary Islands are the destinations preferred by German and British tourists, while the Russians and French favour Catalonia.
