Washington, CT, October 02, 2014 -- Seven sculptures by Litchfield County (CT) artist Joe Gitterman are now an integral part of the grand public spaces at the Royal Sonesta Houston as part of an approximately $30-million renovation program that has positioned the landmark hotel as one of the top hospitality destinations in Texas.
The sculptures are from Gittermans gracefully bending and rolling mirrored stainless steel Gesture series. They were chosen to accent the renovation and complement vibrant art and design choices that reflect the influence of science and technology in Houston.
It was inspiring to be part of a rebirth of this important location. I think the hotels choice of where to place my works was superb, said Mr. Gitterman. The seven large Gestures pieces give the space depth and interest and their mirrored surfaces play beautifully off the interior and exterior light, adding constant change to the four-story wall.
The sculptures, which fill seven of the seven foot niches in the dramatic ballroom pre-function entrance wall, have become a striking and noteworthy backdrop for numerous charity events and galas and are also visible to arriving guests through a soaring, glass curtain wall.
The Royal Sonesta Houstons renovation was timed to take advantage of tremendous growth within the city and region. The hotels Uptown/Galleria area locations, a primary and preferred business and entertainment core, is at the axis of the city and roughly equidistant from key destinations such as downtown, the Texas Medical Center, Museum District, Montrose/Midtown, Reliant Park and the Energy Corridor.
Joe Gittermans works are exhibited in private collections throughout the country and in the Sculpture Park at the Governors Residence in Hartford. To see more of his sculptures, visit www.joegitterman.com.
