Partington Behavior Analysts Announces Release of New Book “Success on the Spectrum: How to Teach Skills to Individuals with Autism and Related Disorders”

Dr. James W. Partington, leading expert in the field of behavior analysis, releases new book to equip readers with the knowledge to teach critical skills to children on the autism spectrum effectively

Walnut Creek, California – Latest statistics from World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 1 in 160 children around the world has an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With the prevalence of ASD and related disorders appearing to be globally increasing, it is critical to equip affected parents and educators with knowledge and skills to teach important skills to learners of all ages with a diagnosis of autism or other developmental delays.

Success on the Spectrum: How to Teach Skills to Individuals with Autism and Related Disorders, recently launched by authors James W. Partington, Ph.D., BCBA-D and Scott W. Partington, M.A., BCBA, is a valuable resource for parents and educators.

“It is important to have what I often refer to as “the Heart”, or caring about the individual, but it is also important to have the practical ‘technical skills’ of teaching,” said Dr. Partington, who is the Director of Behavioral Analysts, Inc. “Simply put, the teaching of skills becomes everyone’s responsibility – it is not just the job of a credential teacher.”

Through the release of Success on the Spectrum, Dr. James Partington aims to provide potential “teachers” – parents, siblings, friends, relatives, and educators – with the knowledge and essential tools to promote effective teaching of critical skills to maximize the potential of the learner.

Success on the Spectrum is divided into four sections; 1) Establishing a Plan to Teach, 2) Establishing an Effective Teaching Relationship with a Learner, 3) How to Teach, and 4) Putting It All Together.

Section 1: Establishing a Plan to Teach lays out the components of an effective teaching plan, which critical skills and behavioral patterns need to be developed, and how educational priorities and goals are to be determined.

Section 2: Establishing an Effective Teaching Relationship With a Learner teaches readers how to establish reinforcing relationships and instructional control with learners, and how to understand and handle problematic behavior.

Section 3: How to Teach disseminates basic teaching methodology such as ensuring motivation and prompting, and how to undertake task analysis.

Section 4: Putting It All Together ties everything together into a comprehensive guideline for teachers to inculcate skills into learners during daily activities, and expanding their vocabulary.
