Major New Contribution to the Theatre of The Absurd

By Doug Bentley on December 09 2013 | 360 Views

Release of Canadian playwright’s new play means that we are done Waiting For Godot.

Vancouver, Canada, December 09, 2013 -- Canadian playwright Doug Bentley’s revised edition of GO -21st Century Existentialism in an Absurdist Theme is now available in paperback and in most digital formats at major online retailers and bookstores. GO is a full length 4 Act stage play based on the landmark play by Samuel Beckett Waiting for Godot.

First produced in 1953, Waiting For Godot painted an indifferent universe, meaningless and random. Within it, Beckett’s tramps, VLADIMIR and ESTRAGON, waited frozenly, in hopelessness, for the non-appearance of their transcendent, passive Godot.

Positing major ontological advances made since that play, GO’s tramps, BLIND and GOGO, are now able to actively participate in a meaningful kosmos. Their universe is now "open at the top." GO’s tramps search out their transcendent, genderless Go. On their mystic journey they encounter transformative characters - a starman, wizard, warrior and clown.

A serious exploration of contemporary existential angst, GO is a modern contribution to the theatre of the absurd, a global genre transcending cultural lines. GO employs technical economy in all aspects of production, making it inexpensive to produce. Dramaturges will be delighted by the minimal stage directions, stage directors by the electricity present in GO. A challenge for thespians, audiences will also be entertained and amused by its abundant humor.

GO is available in paperback at Amazon websites worldwide, Barnes & Noble, Bowker Books, Book Depository, Books a Million, Indie Bound and Flipkart India. It is also available to libraries and academic institutions worldwide through the Ingram Content Group, Baker & Taylor, and NACSCORP in the USA.

In digital formats GO is sold at Amazon Kindle, Apple EBookstore, Barnes & Noble Nook, Diesel EBooks, Kobo Books, Chapters/Indigo Canada, FNAC France, Livraria Cultura Brazil, Flipkart India and Smashwords. It is free of charge to libraries worldwide through Baker & Taylor Axis 360.

The playwright has made a free sample of GO available to readers here. You can download a free sample of GO at this link: https://www.smashwords.com/extreader/read/332084/1/go
