Local Author Signed to Publish Prehistoric, Fossil Inspired Book

Cypress Mill, TX, October 09, 2014 -- Tate Publishing is honored to announce the signing of local author Betty Kirkpatrick and her book Strothio.

Strothio is a unique novel inspired by geologic prehistory that highlights themes of family, love, friendship and authenticity.

The author of multiple books rooted in prehistoric times and discoveries including Under the Wings of a Goose, Doorknobs and Nesteggs, and Poofus Prehistoric Cookbook, Kirkpatrick shares how the mystery and wonder of a fossil discovery led to the conception of Strothios story. I was inspired to write Strothio when I saw a photo of the 6 foot fossil skull that was unearthed in Big Bend National Park in the 1940’s, says Kirkpatrick. The fossil is in the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Also a second skull was found in the same area. It is located at the University of Texas. So, thus the story of Strothio and Uracula started for me.

At the time they lived back in geologic prehistory, Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, the U.S. was covered in waters that oscillated back and forth quite different from today. My fictional story is that their lives began in the badlands of Montana and eventually ended in Big Bend National Park, Texas, where the Rio Grande River now flows through, shares Kirkpatrick.

When asked how her prehistoric story related to readers today, Kirkpatrick shared that her story demonstrates that life is not always easy. There are problems; but we can overcome them and I believe that help from above gives us strength to do that.

Betty Starr Kirkpatrick credits part of her inspiration to being married to a geologist and petroleum engineer whose interest and encouragement was invaluable in the writing process. Kirkpatrick has taught in classrooms, homebound, gifted & talented, and also served as supervisor of elementary schools. She lives in the hills west of Austin, Texas, with her daughter and granddaughter living nearby and they enjoy the beauty of nature and the togetherness of love.

Kirkpatrick has Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from the University of North Texas and certain certification from Texas Woman’s University. She has done other studies also, but she attributes most knowledge from living life abundantly and full with her family.
