ProChem, Inc. recently assembled and delivered an Ion-Exchange Pilot System for a new customer.

ProChem, Inc. recently assembled and delivered an Ion-Exchange Pilot System for a new customer. This system will remove nitrates from groundwater at the customer site and remain at their site for several weeks to demonstrate how the full scale process will work.

This system collects untreated wastewater from the manufacturing plant and stores it in a feed tank. The wastewater is pumped from the feed tank and through a cartridge filter. From there, the water is fed through a series of ion-exchange columns. The treated water is fed to a treated water tank before it is discharged.

This pilot system is skid-mounted and accessible by fork lift of pallet jack for ease of transport. It includes four 14.7” X 40” FRP vessels with poly liners, 2.5 cuft of ion-exchange media, and distributor system. The units are plumbed using 80PVC and 1” high purity water braided tubing. The pre-filter housing is 20” and polypropylene material. The system utilizes a 1/2 HP, 120V booster pump and instrumentation for monitoring pressure and flow. There are two tanks, one for feed and one for effluent, which are 275 gallons each. This system is equipped with a brine tank for on-site media regeneration.
Before the ion-exchange pilot treatment system left ProChem’s warehouse, our Water Systems team tested the system. To view pictures of this system, visit: http://www.prochemwater.com/ion-exchange-pilot-system-for-nitrate-removal/

Once ProChem identifies a treatment strategy for a customer, a pilot system can be assembled and operated at their facility for several weeks to ensure that the system will meet the customer’s needs. A pilot study can reveal the equipment and process modifications that will be necessary before the final installation of the full scale water reuse or wastewater treatment system. It also gives the customer the opportunity see the system in action so that they are testing the product before they buy it. A ProChem pilot system is a complete, scaled down representation of the customer’s proposed treatment system, so they can be assembled to include ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, chemical precipitation, ion-exchange, and many other treatment methods. These systems are available in 2-5 gallon per minute flow rates and include automation controls and an operator to run the system.

ProChem strives to help their customers establish the highest level of credibility and a positive reputation within the regulatory community. Their goal is to significantly reduce the amount of fresh water that manufacturers require by providing sustainable solutions that will also benefit the customer’s bottom line.
