Honduras Boosts its Education Sector with Spain’s Support

Madrid, Spain, June 28, 2013 - Various educational projects, supported by Spain, are being inaugurated in this Central American country.
Thanks to Spain’s Debt Conversion Programme for Honduras, Tegucigalpa now has a new virtual library at the National Institute for Educational Research (INICE). Another three regions in the north of the country (San Pedro Sula, Tela and San Marcos de Ocotepeque) also have three new multimedia production centres. All of these are equipped with the very latest technology.
According to Spanish news agency EFE, the initiative, led by the Technical University of Valencia, is part of the project “Strengthening Vocational Training in the Education System”, which has been provided with funding of 34.3 million lempiras, or almost €1.5 million.
The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), the body that administers the funds of Spain’s Debt Conversion Programme for Honduras, said the projects will benefit vocational training students, teachers, heads and supervisors in the country.
It is calculated that 220,000 mid-level students will benefit from this investment over the medium term. According to the CABEI, the training enabled by this project will give adult and young beneficiaries better chances of finding jobs in companies as qualified technicians.
