Hardwipe Targets Activists and Social Justice Campaigners in Major Update

TRURO, UNITED KINGDOM - March 23, 2015 - Big Angry Dog Ltd announces a change of strategy with the latest update of its popular Hardwipe data sanitization software.

Hardwipe makes it easy to permanently erase (or ’hard wipe’) computer data. Its popularity is largely due to its clean integration with Windows File Explorer, providing on-demand ’right click’ wiping of files and folder contents, as well the ability to erase drives and USB media, and sanitize the Recycler contents.

Andy Thomas explains the new strategy: ’Initially, Hardwipe targeted English speakers, but feedback from non-English speakers was significant. In response, we encouraged users to translate the software’s interface themselves and immediately noticed a demand from Southern European and former Eastern Bloc countries. Today, sales from Spanish speaking countries outstrip English speaking ones, and we had to wonder why. Activists and social justice campaigners have long been all too aware that the authorities keeps tabs on them,
and our research suggests that these people are increasingly concerned about protecting their data from Big Brother.’

Hardwipe is available free, but a paid upgrade provides ’advanced features’ such as a new command line utility. The latest release of Hardwipe, version 5, also re-introduces a ’Portable Edition’ which works under Windows PE to provide a USB bootable solution. ’The Portable Edition was a feature of earlier versions of Hardwipe, but we canned it because we were focused on desktop use,’ adds Andy Thomas. ’In hindsight, this was a mistake and version 5 brings it back.’
