The NGO Action Against Hunger is holding a cultural contest in Spain to help combat hunger through different artistic disciplines.

Madrid, Spain, July 16, 2013 - The NGO Action Against Hunger is holding a cultural contest in Spain to help combat hunger through different artistic disciplines.

The “Generación No Hunger” initiative, of the NGO Action Against Hunger, has launched a cultural contest in Spain to fight hunger through theatre, dance, rap and other art forms.

In a press release, the NGO has explained that the aim of this initiative is to use art as a way of trying to influence political decisions and raise public awareness, teaching people that they are part of the first generation that could end hunger.

The project is being financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), with the Radio 3 channel of state broadcaster Radio Nacional de España acting as its official mouthpiece. It is also being supported by different Spanish universities, foundations and companies.

In parallel, the Generación No Hunger campaign has also drawn up a manifesto calling for a series of measures to combat child malnutrition, saying it is unacceptable for 870 million people to be going hungry when there is enough food for everyone.

The deadline for submitting artworks is 20 July and the terms and conditions can be found on the website www.generacionnohunger.org. Various theatre, rap, dance and comic artists have recorded tutorial videos in the Philippines, Peru, Mauritania and the West Bank to serve as inspiration to the participants. Three spokespeople will be selected from all the participants, who will travel to Guatemala, where they will visit different projects run by the NGO in order to learn about the “face of hunger”.
