Former Little Sister to be Honored with Prestigious Open Hearts Foundation Award

By Danica Selvaggio on April 22 2015 | 660 Views

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County is excited to celebrate former Little Sister and current Board member Elle Febbo as a Open Heart Foundation’s 2015 honoree and grand prize award winner.

The award, given by actress Jane Seymour’s Open Heart Foundation, recognizes the achievements of community leaders. Applicants submit their own short essays, inspiring stories that illustrate the Foundation’s mission and truly epitomize the ability to overcome difficult situations, by creating positive improvements in the world around them. Three community leaders were selected to be honored, and are invited to attend.

Former foster child and “Little Sister” turned bestselling author and business leader, Elle Febbo, submitted her story about how her participation in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program transformed her from a “throwaway kid” to someone who felt loved and who had an important purpose.

“Before Lisa, I never would have believed that anything wonderful was in store for a girl like me,” says Elle in her short essay. “She reminded my heart that I was worthy.” Her full essay can be read at KeepAnOpenHeart.com.

As the grand prize honoree, Elle will attend the Open Hearts Foundation 2015 Gala on May 9, accepting a gift of $10,000 to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County.
