Florida Praises Spain’s Trade Promotion Work

The Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, has presented the Business Ambassador Medal to Spain’s Trade Commissioner in Miami, Mario Buisán.
Madrid, Spain, April 19, 2013 - The Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, has presented the Business Ambassador Medal to Spain’s Trade Commissioner in Miami, Mario Buisán.
Speaking at a lunch organised by the Spain-United States Chamber of Commerce in Miami, Scott highlighted the important bilateral relations between Spain and Florida, which go back 500 years to the discovery of this region by the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León. “I thank the Spain-United States Chamber of Commerce for its help in expanding mutually beneficial business and cultural ties between Florida and Spain”, said the governor.
He said that "the number of Spanish companies expanding and moving to Florida shows how our efforts to create a positive business climate are working well”. Around 300 Spanish companies from a range of sectors are doing business in the state of Florida, where they have invested US$6.5 billion and created around 18,000 jobs, the governor revealed.
The Chairman of the Spain-United States Chamber of Commerce, Xavier Ruiz, added that “at a time when Spain is facing economic challenges, we have seen a marked increase in the volume of Spanish investments in the USA and particularly in Florida”.
Scott explained that “Spanish companies have a significant impact on the economy of Florida and are part of the success story that has seen over 290,000 jobs being created in the private sector” since the start of 2011.
