File Cataloger and Metadata Extractor are released to the public

Searching through files and folders, especially on data which is originally not your own, is one of the trickiest parts of file management. Most of the information about the files, metadata or document properties, are not easily viewable for multiple files and folders at once.

Filecats Limited has released Filecats Standard, a File Cataloger which allows users to extract the information shown in Windows Explorer into Microsoft Excel with just two clicks. It integrates into Windows Explorer and is available from the context menu. Cataloging is swift, with on one computer 400,000 files cataloged in 11 minutes.

Hyperlinks to the file and folder, grouping and filters are also set, allowing searches to be started immediately on the catalog creation.

Filecats Professional has also been released, which is also a Metadata Extractor, allowing up to several hundred document properties to be exported, such as Author, Tags, Categories. For Microsoft Office documents, they also include statistics (word, page, character count), together with date information (Date Printed, Date Created).

For photographs, they include camera make/model, picture date and time and, for GPS-enabled cameras, longitude and latitude.

For audio/video, they include album and track information, compression and bitrates. For emails saved in Windows Explorer as MSG files, they include recipients, date sent/received, and body text.
