Carmel Mountain Preschool Celebrates 30 Years of Early Childhood Excellence

In 1983 Dan and Pauline Condrick founded Carmel Mountain Preschool to fill the need for a preschool in the new and growing community of Rancho Penasquitos. They envisioned a warm caring, fun atmosphere where children could explore and discover the many joys of early childhood. Their mission was to provide a loving, supportive, educational environment where children participate in programs that promote individual growth and a lifelong love of learning. So it was with that mission that Dan and Pauline opened the doors of Carmel Mountain Preschool, located at 9510 Carmel Mountain Road.

As the community grew so did Carmel Mountain Preschool. In 1986 CMP expanded to 20 classrooms and was licensed for 249 children. Situated on3 beautifully landscaped acres CMP has 3 large and shady playgrounds and 2 outdoor classrooms. "The Glenn" is an outdoor environment where children are free to explore nature, plant and harvest vegetables, tend flower beds, compost, work with the worm farm or create music with one of the many outdoor instruments. "The Messy Art Area" is another outdoor learning environment that allows the children to create and produce art on a large, messy scale. CMP continues to grow, not in physical size but in the number of CMP graduates, many of whom now have children attending CMP.

Dan and Pauline recognized early on the need for exceptional staff and that the strength of the program lies in the staff’s commitment to a quality early childhood education program. Many of the Carmel Mountain Staff have worked alongside Dan and Pauline for well over 20 years. "As one of the original teachers at CMP, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity of watching our goals turn into reality for so many children. Working in a supportive environment and being proud of our school’s reputation in the community motivates me to continue making a difference in each child’s life," says Karen Wyatt-Hagey, a teacher who has been at CMP since 1983.

Today Carmel Mountain Preschool is a pillar of excellence in the early childhood education community, Rancho Penasquitos and surrounding communities. Dan and Pauline continue to nurture and support an ever thriving, evolving Carmel Mountain Preschool with a message of being "the perfect place for your child to grow".

Carmel Mountain Preschool (CMP) is a San Diego, California based preschool situated between 4S Ranch, Poway, Carmel Valley and Santaluz. CMP offers safe, caring, hands-on developmentally-appropriate programs for children in the 18 month old, two year-old, three year-old, pre-kindergarten, and Kindergarten categories.
