Gone are the days when a new employee had time to learn and develop on the job and then start being productive. In today’s world, competition starts from Day 1 in any company and the employees are exp

It is therefore imperative that the education they receive is laced with real-time exposure to the practicalities of the business world. BIBS Kolkata, a premier Business School in Kolkata is doing just that through a plethora of industry-endorsed and evaluated events for its students that are aimed at making its students’ Industry ready.
One such event is Brand Wars, an exercise at BIBS Kolkata that has been developed to give firstyear students a real-time understanding of how branding plays a vital role in creating the lifecycle of any product or service. Students get to ideate, create, design and develop the branding for products in this team-based activity. The finals see the groups presenting their products through their brand, logo, marketing strategy and media plans including advertisements both print and visual as well as radio.
The event is judged by stalwarts from the advertising, fmcg, fmcd, and industry, who enlighten our students with their feedback and experience. Companies like Ogilvy, JWT, Rediffusion, Luminous, Pepsico have been a part of this prestigious event. Students in a precursor to the exercise go through stringent classroom training and mentoring on the salient features of branding. They are taught about branding techniques used by large corporations today as well as the finer points about the various tools and techniques that are used in today’s environment for developing any brand right from scratch.
Under the guidance of their mentors who are from the Industry apart from their Faculty the students create an understanding of the nuances of Planning, Resource Management, and Team Work, while researching in real-time about their products in the open markets by means of surveys, shop visits, customer feedback, it also helps them understand concepts that are imparted to them in the classroom. This makes for a great event and lots of learning along the way.
According to Mr. Vidur Kapoor, Chairman, BIBS Kolkata, “Branding is a quintessential need for any product today. The bigger you are, the bigger your brand identity has to be. That’s the formula for any product today. BIBS has always aimed at developing management acumen through industry immersion. Brand War is a big step in getting students to learn about the business world.”
