Art Basel Artists Collaborate to Benefit Surf Nonprofit Starting on #GivingTuesday

More than 15 artists from around the world with a conservation ethic have donated pieces to benefit surf nonprofit WAVES for Development and their education programs in Peru.

Portland, OR, USA, December 14, 2013 -- Surfers, artists, philanthropists, environmentalists and activists have created a rising tide of collaboration manifested through an online auction launched on #GivingTuesday. Auction curator Jared Aufrichtig says that this Art Basel charity auction is: “Making Waves and Arresting Motion”.

Participating artists include:?All, Jared Aufrichtig, Benjamin Rollins Caldwell, Christiaan Conradie, Julio Cotto, Matt Dobbs, Todd Fischer, Shaun Hill, Kimyon Huggins, Chandra Lightheart, Anthony Lister, Sophie-Alexia Joly de Lotbiniere, Zwelethu Machepha, Orson Oblowitz, Henry Espinoza Panta, Miguel Paredes, William Quigley, Nicholas Routzen, Angelika Sauer, and Gregory Siff.

All proceeds will benefit WAVES’ diversity of programs being implemented in northern Peru. WAVES was created to link passion with purpose; they aim to bridge the educational and economic gap between wealthy surfers and members of rural coastal communities, especially youth. In the past years, staff and volunteers have enriched the lives over 300 people through Community Outreach, Environmental Health and Entrepreneurship Empowerment programs.
