Phoenix, AZ, United States, December 23, 2013 -- The primary hospital for the orthopedic surgeons at OrthoArizona - Arizona Orthopaedic Associates, OASIS Hospital, is the first medical institute in the state of Arizona to join the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), a national collection of data and research on joint replacement and patient and physician information.
The AJRR is an independent, nonprofit database designed to store joint replacement surgery data from procedures performed at participating hospitals and medical centers with membership from around the country.
Information included in the database is used to monitor patients’ artificial joints throughout their lifetime and is based on the patients, their surgeons and the hospitals where the procedures took place.
Surgeons and patients benefit from the database because it allows information about procedures and devices to be accessed for reference. Doctors who are part of the system are able to use reference materials to make the most informed recommendations to their patients.
“We feel privileged to be a part of the American Joint Replacement Registry,” said David M. Ott, M.D. of OrthoArizona - Arizona Orthopaedics Associates and medical director of OASIS Hospital in Phoenix. “We’ll benefit from being a part of the registry and our patients with benefit from the information provided to us by AJRR.”
The AJRR’s current goals are to collect information on total joint replacement procedures in the United States in order to use the evidence-based performance and survivorship data to improve quality of care.
