A unique Holiday on the Norfolk Broads.

One of the nicest things to do is be by the waterside. Seaside, lakeside and riverside properties are always in high demand both as residential properties and especially for holidays. This is especially true if one spends that time on a river boat or a sailing boat. All the stresses of life seem to drain away leaving one feeling totally relaxed and wondering what all the tension was about. Kenneth Grahame knew with when he wrote "The Wind in the Willows" and had Ratty say "There is nothing- absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." Kenneth Grahame was writing about the Thames valley where another very famous novel called "Three Men in a Boat" by Jerome K Jerome was written about a trip up the Thames in a rowing skiff.

The fantastic thing is that these waterways still exist. |It is possible to take a boat from one side of the UK to the other. A lot of this canal boating does require that it be a narrow boat however which puts some restrictions on accommodation, maneuverability and the distance one can journey in a day.

In the corner of England know as East Anglia there is a huge are of very low and flat country. Much of it was historically marshland but over the centuries the swamps have been drained to make farm land. However because of its nature the area along the River Thule between Norwich and Great Yarmouth and the areas north of there are a collection of Broad waterways and lakes which enable a boater to meander up and down for over 125 miles and view the fantastic bird and sometimes unique wildlife that inhabit these wetlands.

There are river cruisers for hire enabling one to have a week or two just cruising on the broads, tying up at the riverside pubs for meals or drink or tea or just because you need a change. These cruisers are well set up enabling one to sleep, eat and generally live aboard in comfort for the duration of your holiday.

But if boating isn’t your thing then there are other options open which will give you the joy of staying alongside the river and experiencing the beauty of the Brads. There are many Riverside Cottages to let all along the waterways and an entire waterside idyll can be yours to let you relax. The country is so flat that you can climb on one of the many bicycles and cycle to your heart’s content. This is just as an exciting way to see some of the birds, butterflies and wildlife that are unique to this part of England.
