40-Something Phoenix Racer Accepted Onto NASCAR® Team Uses Crowd Funding to Realize His Dream

ToNic Motorsports, a Phoenix-area professional racing team, announced today that lead driver Todd Bennett has been accepted onto the NASCAR® Camping World Truck Series team owned by Level 1 Motorsport

Phoenix, AZ, December 09, 2013 -- ToNic Motorsports, a Phoenix-area professional racing team, announced today that lead driver Todd Bennett has been accepted onto the NASCAR® Camping World Truck Series team owned by Level 1 Motorsports. Bennett is 43 years old.

In addition to being one of the oldest driver in the league, Bennett — who is using crowd funding to raise money to help secure his NASCAR license — will also likely be the only driver sporting local businesses, rather than the familiar Fortune 100 sponsors, on his racecar and suit.

Lacking the capital required to run in a lower-series league to qualify for a NASCAR license — a precondition for Bennett to join the Level 1 team — ToNic Motorsports and Bennett decided to appeal to the public, through a website called Gofundme.com seeking racing sponsorships from smaller businesses.

“Few local drivers without professional sponsorship ever achieve this level of success, and it’s all the more incredible given that Todd began his racing career on a dirt track at the age most drivers are considering retirement,” said ToNic Motorsports spokesperson Nicole Perry. “We see this as an amazing opportunity for small businesses to associate their brands with a true feel-good story: the league’s latest-blooming driver overcoming all odds to realize his dream.”

Bennett’s entry into NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series represents perhaps the first time that businesses lacking large-scale marketing budgets can advertise with a NASCAR driver.

Bennett expects to begin driving for Level 1 in early 2014. Businesses interested in sponsorship opportunities can contact Nicole Perry Nicole@nvpconsulting.com
